Buzzwords

2009-12-28

Learning buzzwords is a fun way for students to keep up with what's happening around them. Here are some buzzwords that became popular during the past year.

  • Car tone - ambient noise proposed for use with electric cars so that pedestrians can hear the cars coming.
  • Chimerica - the intertwined economies of China and America, which together dominate the world economy.
  • Green shoots - signs of an economic recovery.
  • Netbook - an inexpensive portable computer intended mainly for use with the Internet.
  • Social distancing - staying away from other people so as not to catch or spread the flu.
  • Vook - a digital book that includes some video in its text.

Understanding buzzwords such as these promotes learning across the subject areas. You and your students can come up with many others.
