Latest news for educators:
Students Reading More Nonfiction
The newest edition of "What Kids Are Reading" reported that US students are reading more nonfiction than previously, but not as much as is recommended by Common Core Standards. The most nonfiction reading took place in the fourth and fifth grades. As expected, girls were found to read more than boys. Another interesting finding was that high school books are less complex than they should be. Overall, students are not reading as much as they should, with only one-fourth of students independently reading the recommended 30 minutes each day.
